Michael S. Gerson
Michael S. Gerson is a principal analyst and project director at the Center for Naval Analysis, where his work focuses on nuclear and conventional deterrence, nuclear strategy, arms control, and weapons of mass destruction proliferation. From September 2011 to September 2012, he was on loan from CNA to the Office of the Secretary of Defense, where he worked on a range of strategic issues associated with the Middle East and homeland defense. In 2009, he was a staff member on the Nuclear Posture Review, where he was a lead author of a report on international perspectives on U.S. nuclear policy and posture. Mr. Gerson has presented his work on strategic issues at numerous universities and think tanks, and has published several articles and chapters in academic journals and books. He recently served as co-chair of the Next Generation Working Group on U.S.-Russian Arms Control, sponsored by the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), and co-authored the working group’s final report, Beyond New START: Enhancing US National Security Through Arms Control with Russia. Mr. Gerson holds a B.A. with Special Honors in history from the University of Texas, and an M.A. in international relations from the University of Chicago.
