Dr. Pavel K. Baev

PAVEL K. BAEV is a Senior Researcher, International Peace Research Institute, Oslo (PRIO) and Editor of Security Dialogue. After graduation from Moscow University in 1979, he worked in a research institute for the USSR Ministry of Defense. In 1988, Dr. Baev joined the newly created Institute of Europe within the Soviet Academy of Sciences. In autumn 1992 he took a sabbatical to move to PRIO where, from 1994 through 1996, Dr. Baev held a NATO Democratic Institutions Fellowship. His recent books, The Russian Army in a Time of Troubles (1996) and Russia's Policies in the Caucasus (1997), are available from Sage Publications and Brookings Institution, respectively.
